Healthy Recipes Using Hemp Seeds

healthy hemp seeds recipes Oct 04, 2021

Everyone is trying to incorporate healthy foods into our diets. Hemp seeds known to be a great source of bith omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, a complete protein, as well a good source of vitamin E and many minerals.

Today I have a spicy recipe for you that’s delicious as a topper for grilled fish, tofu and veggie burgers … and it’s also great stirred into veggies, beans, and pasta!

It’s proof that you can enjoy gourmet-style meals while eating a “clean” and healthy diet.

The bonus of eating healthy whole foods is that you feel great AFTER your meals, too – instead of weighed down and blah.

This recipe literally comes together in just a couple of minutes.

The pepitas (pumpkin seeds) add a surprising richness to this pesto. I prefer full-fat Greek yogurt in this, but you can use low-fat if that’s what you have on-hand.

You can easily adjust the heat level, too. A splash or two of sriracha will kick it up a notch, as well as including the jalapeno seeds.

Spicy Pumpkin Seed Hemp Pesto

Serving size: 1 tablespoon

  • 1/4 cup hulled pumpkin seeds (pipits
  • 1/4 cup hemp hearts
  • 1-2 garlic cloves
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, quartered with seeds removed
  • 1 cup  fresh cilantro
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • Hot sauce to taste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Toast the pumpkin seeds in a skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently so they don’t burn.

Add them to a food processor along with the other ingredients and blend. Taste and adjust the seasonings.

This keeps in the fridge for 2-3 days in an airtight container.

You won’t believe how delicious this next recipe is…

 4 Ingredient (delicious) cookies

This recipe for cookies – yes, cookies!!! – isn’t so much a recipe as it is a “formula.” And it’s surprisingly delicious!

It all starts with a base of overripe bananas – use your choice of grain (oats, buckwheat flakes, quinoa flakes, etc) and nut butter.

This is a classic one ... with oats, bananas, hemp hearts and peanut butter.

✅ NOTE: I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but adding a tablespoon or two of mini-chocolate chips takes these over the top.

(Makes 4 cookies)

  • 3/4  cup rolled oats (gluten-free, if possible)
  • 1/4 cup hemp hearts
  • 1½ large overripe bananas
  • ¼ cup  peanut butter
  • (optional: ½ tsp baking powder)

Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, smash the bananas – use a fork or potato masher. Add the rolled oats, hemp hearts and peanut butter (and baking powder if using) and stir well to incorporate.

Divide the batter into 4 equal-sized portions and form balls. Place on the baking sheet and press down using the back of a fork, into a circle.

Bake for about 10 minutes, until they start to become golden. Remove from the oven and let cool on the sheet for another 10 minutes. Finish cooling on a wire rack.

You’re welcome! :-)
